For the redesign of the
Palm Pilot, my group and I gathered data from several different
HCI methods to propose changes to improve the use of the Palm.
We modeled a contextual inquiry, conducted our own cognitive
walkthroughs and heuristic evaluations, and then analyzed
a think aloud.
The redesigns we proposed
were driven by the data we gathered and later analyzed. Below
are the major changes we suggested:
1) Include a toolbar. At
the bottom of the screen, we will implememtn a toolbar to
allow users to quickly switch between applications. This will
also allow them to also know which applications are open so
that they do not need to re-open the same application.
2) Easier synchronization
of calendars for meetings. This function allows two users
to use the infrared beam to send their calendar to the other
person in order to find a mutual free time for a meeting.
3) Email to calendar connection.
If the user receives an email with a meeting time, the Palm
will allow him to immediately put that meeting into his calendar
with all the information already preset. |
